About Gareth E. Rees

Gareth E. Rees is the author of Unofficial Britain (Elliott & Thompson, 2020), which was longlisted for the Ondaatje Prize and recommended as one of The Sunday Times best travel books of the year 2020.

His other books include Car Park Life (Influx Press 2019), The Stone Tide (Influx Press, 2018) and Marshland (Influx Press, 2013) which was longlisted for the Gordon Burn Prize. His debut collection of short fiction, Terminal Zones was published by Influx Press in 2o22. (‘Fresh and disturbing stories mapping out the pressure points in the psychedelic everyday.’ – Will Wiles, author of Plume).

The modern myths and folklore of place have always driven Gareth’s writing and he has contributed weird fiction and horror stories to numerous anthologies. His short stories have been selected for Best British Stories 2023 (Salt Publishing) and Best of British Fantasy 2019 (Newcon Press). His articles and essays have been published in Mount London (Penned in the Margins), An Unreliable Guide to London (Influx Press), The Guardian and The Quietus

His forthcoming book Sunken Lands: a Journey Through Lost Kingdoms and Flooded Worlds will be published by Elliott & Thompson in March 2024.
